Variations in Numbers of Poles and Throws (Positions)

The circuit configuration of a switch is represented by the number of circuits and the number of contacts. Notation for switches used with very small currents is "x-pole, x-position."

The number of circuits, or poles, that a switch can control is also written as "xP," and the number of contacts, or "throws," that can be controlled simultaneously is also written as "xT."

Non-Shorting Types

Non-shorting types are also available. "Non-shorting" indicates that electrical connections between terminals are momentarily broken to prevent a short circuit, especially in reference to switching between circuits.
